Our History

Our history is currently being written.  One might suggest that the seed for The Samaritan Women was planted in the lives of our leadership a long time ago, as each of us has walked a journey of trials and hardship with a teen.  Those individual roads have come together in this place as we begin a new journey of healing and helping others.

  • The Samaritan Women was formed as a nonprofit organization in October 2007, the same time we acquired our property.

  • Even before we took occupancy, the floodgates of support were opened and we had crews of volunteers giving up their weekends to haul trash, clean rooms, move furniture, and deconstruct some rooms for renovation.  In the first month, we had over 40 volunteers working tirelessly to prepare the house for The Samaritan Women.  In fact, some women from church even showed up and bought the work crews pizza and sodas!

  • On October 20, 2007 we hosted about 30 friends, volunteers, and neighbors at Ventnor Lodge to join us in formally dedicating the property for this use.  The ceremony was led Pr Mary Miller-Zurell, Assistant to the Bishop of the MD/DE Synod, with prayers offered for the leadership by Pr. Gigie Sijera-Grant of First Lutheran, Ellicott City, and prayers for the young women we will serve offered by our leaders and volunteers.  Following the ceremony, a brief reception and tour of the property was held.

  • Work crews continue as we begin formal renovations of the bathrooms, kitchen, and major systems.  Our goal is to open our doors for resident occupancy in early 2009.
